Collection: Morganite from Elba

Elba, the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago, lies off Italy’s western coast. Around Campo nell’Elba, granitic pegmatite dykes cut through the island, and it is the type locality of elbaite tourmaline. These pegmatites are linked to the Monte Capanne granite pluton, formed some seven to eight million years ago, and yield a rich suite of minerals, making Elba a European classic.

Morganite is the pink member of the beryl family. Elba’s morganite forms transparent crystals in delicate pastel tones, from very pale pink to soft peachy pink, with bright faces, often growing on white pegmatite host rock that sets off the gentle color.
