Fluorite from Sicily is rare and prized in its own right, and this grey-purple example from Poggio Balate is among the most understated — and most memorable — of the lot. The crystals carry a soft, matte haze across their faces, with color moving through violet, green, and burnt orange within a single cluster, making for a mineral specimen that rewards close, repeated looking.
This locality is best known for its saturated blues and emerald greens, but this particular batch takes a very different stance. With a soft, satin sheen reminiscent of Ru-ware celadon, the tone here is quiet and restrained — yet it holds the eye all the same. Several pieces grow alongside ivory-white baryte, layered and dimensional like piped buttercream against the crystal faces. Some fluorite edges carry a crisp violet outline; others dissolve into soft, multi-layered color banding. Each specimen is a distinct record left behind by geologic time.
