Collection: Barite from Villamassargia, Sardinia

The hill of Monte Mesu near Villamassargia, in Sardinia’s Sulcis-Iglesiente district, once held some of the island’s most celebrated barite mines, all now closed. Its barite forms amber-gold, translucent tabular crystals rising in tight, cockscomb-like ranks with a clear, glassy luster.
