Collection: Spanish Black Gypsum
Villarroya, in Muro de Aguas, La Rioja, was a lake some three million years ago in the Pliocene, and its sediments preserve abundant organic matter. The gypsum crystals found here are black, with dark organic material enclosed within them, giving each specimen a subdued, mysterious tone, quite unlike ordinary colorless, transparent gypsum.
